The Problem
Minimally invasive surgery, whether laparoscopic or robotic, is conducted through trocars: “pipes” that allow for insertion of a camera and tools into the body.
During surgery, the camera lens (that is inside the body) typically gets dirty (fog, blood, tissue) and obstructs the physician’s vision.
To clean the lens, the surgeon must remove the camera from the body, wipe it, de-fog it, return it through the trocar, reorient oneself in the body, and restart the procedure – this frustrates the physician and the staff and wastes valuable Operating Room (OR) time.
